Thailand receives Russian testing information and sees no confirmed plague outbreak

Thailand’s DDC (Department of Disease Control, Ministry of Public Health) said on11October that the information received does not confirm a plague outbreak in Irkutsk. Director Montien Kanasawad urged reliance on verified sources.

The department identifies its exchange with Russia’s IHR-NFP (International Health Regulations National Focal Point). Information received described nearly5000contact tests with no plague or other dangerous pathogens, two COVID-19 (coronavirus disease2019) cases and two rhinovirus cases. These are Russian reports, not tests performed by Thai laboratories.

The department continues international monitoring and advises symptomatic travellers returning from risk areas to seek medical care and disclose their travel history. This statement announces no new entry restrictions. The Nation’s English article relays the same account.

The figures differ from WHO (World Health Organization)’s10October report: more than5500tests and three rhinovirus cases. Sample groups, information dates and reasons for the difference are not disclosed; these should not be treated as matching independent test results.

Official statement11October2026, exact hour unknown. The Nation published11October05:50UTC (Coordinated Universal Time), updated06:01:39UTC;13:50and14:01:39Irkutsk. These are article times, not the speaker’s. Added12October.
