Russia told the World Health Organization that no plague cases had been recorded
On October 6, Russia sent a response to the World Health Organization (WHO), the United Nations health agency. According to a Reuters report from the briefing, the Russian side stated that no plague cases had been recorded.
The organization’s spokesperson Christian Lindmeier relayed Russian information. An earlier agency report reflected a point when the official response was still pending. A change in status during the briefing does not demonstrate a change in test results.
In his October 7 statement, Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus confirmed the date the response was received. The full Russian text and laboratory attachments have not been published in this investigation.
Receipt of the response did not conclude verification: the organization requested further information.
