Suspected plague and the official pneumonia diagnosis remained distinct accounts
By October 4, public reporting included both the laboratory-infection allegation and the official explanation from Rospotrebnadzor, Russia’s Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing, of pneumonia of unknown etiology.
The English-language service of Euronews, a European television news channel, relayed Russian reports and the agency’s diagnosis. The article was published at 17:07 in GMT+2 (Greenwich Mean Time plus two hours), equivalent to 23:07 in Irkutsk.
The foreign publication contains no independent medical assessment of the Russian patient. There is no basis for treating wider circulation of the news as new laboratory confirmation.
