Shipilova died during the night of October 1–2 after severe pneumonia

People of Baikal reported that Darya Shipilova died at Shelekhov District Hospital during the night of October 1–2. The available investigation contains neither the exact time of death nor a medical death certificate.

World Health Organization Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus later described the employee’s death following severe pneumonia as a case known to the organization. This confirms that the case was part of international information exchange, but does not establish a plague diagnosis.

On October 4, Rospotrebnadzor, Russia’s Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing, described the diagnosis as pneumonia of unknown etiology. The agency reported negative results in tests for the microorganisms the employee worked with.
