Rospotrebnadzor says observation of all contacts is complete

Rospotrebnadzor announced that preventive measures following Darya Shipilova’s illness and medical observation of all contacts were completed on 8 October. Interfax reported the press office statement: examinations found no health disturbances associated with infectious pathology; almost 5,000 laboratory tests detected no dangerous pathogens.

This marks a further stage of observation. On 7 October, the agency had reported completion of monitoring for more than 90% of contacts. The statements concern different dates. Laboratory findings are the agency’s account; clinical protocols are not attached.

In a separate report of the press office statement, the agency rejected social-media reports of a second person falling ill after contact with the institute employee. The statement did not identify that person or the initial post.

Rospotrebnadzor also said WHO (World Health Organization, a United Nations specialized agency) did not confirm information about new cases and had received complete information. This is the Russian agency’s description of WHO’s position. WHO’s original 7 October opening remarks sought clarification of reports of a second employee with pneumonia. The full subsequent questions and answers have not yet been reviewed; no independent explanation of the difference is established.

The new denial appeared in an AP (Associated Press, a US-based international news agency) article. ClickOrlando carries the same article. Both report the statement rather than independent examinations. Reports of a second illness and a possible second death, discussed earlier, remain distinct. No published laboratory confirmation of plague has been found in the reviewed materials.

Early located TASS (historically Telegraph Agency of the Soviet Union, a Russian news agency) report carried by Rambler:8 October 11:40:30 UTC+3, updated 11:59:20 UTC+3; Irkutsk 16:40:30 and 16:59:20. ClickOrlando: 10:00:21 UTC (Coordinated Universal Time), updated 10:00:22 UTC; Irkutsk 18:00:21 and 18:00:22. Exact agency statement time and first publication of AP’s original unestablished. Added to research 8 October.
