Kazakhstan assessed importation risk as low and reported preventive controls

On October 5, Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Health reported preventive border controls and assessed the risk of importation as low. Interfax-Kazakhstan relayed its position.

The ministry’s statement contained no information about arriving travelers identified with relevant symptoms. Stronger preventive controls are not equivalent to a border closure.

The agency report is dated 15:45 Astana time, corresponding to 18:45 in Irkutsk. Kazakhstan’s assessment is not an independent diagnosis of the deceased institute employee.
