European health committee met with WHO participation to address the Irkutsk incident

The EU (European Union) Health Security Committee meeting was already underway on 7 October. Eva Hrncirova, the European Commission’s health spokesperson, confirmed this at the Brussels midday briefing. Member states, WHO (World Health Organization) and ECDC (European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, an EU agency) were participating. The Russian incident was to be addressed during the discussion.

Asked by journalist Valentina Vasileva about additional entry restrictions for Russian citizens, the spokesperson announced no decision. She could not yet say whether other steps were being considered and promised updates if the meeting produced outcomes.

The Commission had already urged Russia to provide timely, transparent reporting and reliable epidemiological and microbiological findings. Contact with European experts and monitoring continued. This follows the earlier announcement of a forthcoming meeting. This check obtained neither full minutes nor a list of adopted decisions.
