Hunan experts answer plague questions after Irkutsk reports

After reports of the death of an Irkutsk Anti-Plague Research Institute employee, experts at China’s Hunan Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention answered questions about plague. Rednet published their explanations on 9 October. According to the report, Hunan has no administrative areas with natural plague foci and everyday infection risk is extremely low.

The experts described transmission routes, the importance of timely medical care and responses to a suspected case: patient isolation, epidemiological investigation, contact monitoring and laboratory testing. These are general prevention explanations; the article announces no new travel restrictions or border controls related to Irkutsk.

Its opening account of unexplained pneumonia and the absence of dangerous pathogens in the deceased worker relays an earlier Russian official statement. The center presents no tests of Irkutsk samples in this publication. The experts’ answers do not confirm Darya Shipilova’s cause of death.

The byline names reporter Dai Dan (戴丹) and correspondents Liu Fuqiang (刘富强) and Zhang Yana (张亚娜); the editor is Zhou Man (周曼). Answers are attributed to center experts without individual names or roles; the byline does not establish who made each remark.

The page displays 9 October 2026, 15:37:17. Its timezone is unlabelled, so no conversion to Irkutsk time is made. The time the answers were obtained is unknown. Added to this research on 9 October.
