Preventive measures were completed, but the cause of death remained unresolved

On October 7, Rospotrebnadzor, Russia’s Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing, announced completion of the preventive measures. According to the agency, more than 90% of contacts had completed medical observation. Almost 5,000 tests detected no dangerous pathogens.

This is the number of tests, not 5,000 different people. Individual results, the complete list of methods and an anonymized observation map have not been published in the collected source material.

An overnight local republication dated October 8 repeated the previous day’s statement. A new publication date does not mean there were new tests or a change in the clinical picture.

The official explanation identified pneumonia of unknown etiology as the illness. This investigation contains no final public postmortem conclusion, while the international organization continued to request details.
