An allegation of a laboratory-accident cover-up reached the English-language press

On October 3, the United States outlet The Daily Beast published an article alleging the concealment of a laboratory incident. Its timestamp corresponds to October 4 at 00:18:23 in Irkutsk.

The accusation relied on reports of possible infection already in circulation. The research corpus contains neither an accident report nor evidence of deliberate concealment.

The original test-tube allegation must be distinguished from the established fact that it circulated. A later statement by Rospotrebnadzor, Russia’s Federal Service for Surveillance on Consumer Rights Protection and Human Wellbeing, said no laboratory accidents had been found.
